Does a model boat have to have a keel and rudder?
For a project, I am designing a sailboat that will have to sail on water. And when I tested it, it acts the same with them as it does without. It goes just as fast. The only difference it is a little more stable.
I also need to know how to make a model sailboat more stable, even with a keel and rudder. The boat still turns like crazy and sometimes even flips and goes backward.
Please help.
The reason your sailboat is behaving the way it does is that there is more wind than it can handle. In other words it is just being blown around the water and not sailing. For a boat to truely sail ..ie go upwind, it needs some kind of counter balance and that is the function of the keel. The rudder will only work when the water is moving over it, so that it can actually deflect the water. These problems are very common for small models and it is very hard to get the scale right and make it sail too. Hope this helps.

It is offered in a choice of three materials which include sewn in vinyl reinforcements tabs at stressor and seam points and elastic reinforced stress pads for use with a boat cover support pole accessory. (Support poles not included.) These custom fit covers are made to by a 3-ply and 4-ply weatherproof fabric and vinyl combination that keeps the boat water tight and resistant to moisture gaps. Winterization efforts to shrink-wrap your boat with all weatherproof plastic vacuum-sealed plastic wrap (with the cover on) also can be available.
A lower cost and very popular alternative to custom covers are styled to fit covers. These are boat covers which are suitable for many different types and models of boat rather than being custom-made for a single boat. These are made from the same high quality vinyl and three or four ply weatherproof fabric as the custom covers.
Flex-fit covers are a basic and economically priced boat covers. Made from the same quality of materials, these are “one size fits most” covers which work like a slipcover and are compatible with many different types of boat.
Specialty boat covers are made for boats which need a specialized type of marine boat upholstery to accommodate the features of the boat; for example, ski boats or deck boats with T-towers . These boats are constructed with long tower slots lined with hook and loop closures and reinforcement at important stress points.
For the boat types that have T-Towers, Tournament boats, or V-Hulls these boats offer the same specially designed covers that fit the boat model in specific. Each cover is constructed with these quality marine boat upholstery features: 8 oz. Performance Poly-Guard, a handy dual-zippered entry on both port and starboard side for easy access to and from the boat; double-reinforced bow area for bow pulpit and anchor roller. These marine boat covers are excellent for storage and mooring with a fit that is designed for single engines with bow rails up to 24” (dual engines, simply order next size up). Each cover comes standard with the following: Self-Adhesive Boat Cover Reinforcement Kit; Heavy-Duty Boat Cover Tie Down Kit (12 Straps); Rope Ratchet &Two Support Poles.
