Aquos Blue
LCD TV Decision. Which one? NEED HELP PLEASE!?
Which between the 2 should I get? The first is 52″ which I can get for $950 and has a 4 year best buy warantee.
The second one is 46″ with a 1 year manu. warantee.
Going to be used for gaming, movies, blue ray, etc.. The first is 7 months used but like I said had the 4 yr warantee.

The second one (46″) I can get for $850
Sharp Aquos vs Samsung, tough fight. Both are top tier LCD manufacturers. Both sets are 1080p and 120Hz. Both are really nice panels. So from a technical standpoint, not a lot to separate the two frankly. The links you have by the way are both 46″ sets, not a 52″ and 46″.
Used vs New though. 4 year warranty is nice for sure. But the thing is, you probably want more than that out of the TV. You likely want what 7-10 years maybe? Perhaps even a bit longer? Knowing how well it was treated in those 7 months is a gamble. If the people didn’t know any better and had abusive settings turned on (like over cranking the brightness), they could have added greater than average wear and tear onto the TV. So I’d tend to lean away from a used set, 4 years or not. Because perhaps the thing kicks on you after 5, then you’re left out of luck. I’d go Samsung in that case, only because its a new set.
52″ for around $1,000 though, have you thought about fighting through Black Friday crowds? Its hell I know. But Best Buy is selling a 50″ 1080p Panasonic Plasma AND Panasonic BluRay, both, for $1,000. Brand new on both. Top of the line brand, one of the most reliable manufacturers. Just thought I’d throw that out there.
Again though, if I had to choose between the two you have flagged, I’d take the Samsung purely on the fact that its a brand new TV. I like Sharp a lot, but I’m concerned about used HDTVs that aren’t from someone I personally know who has treated it right.
Aquos Blue
Sharp Aquos TV- Cant get it off of “stand-by” mode/cant get the screen to stay on?
I just recently purchased a Sharp Aquos LCD tv and it seems that I can’t get it off of stand by mode. When i turn the tv on, the blue screen comes on and after about 5 seconds the screen goes black, it is still on, just no picutre. I have tried both the reset and system reset buttons, neither one provides a solution. When I try to put the menu up on the screen, nothing comes up. Even when I use the remote, the tv acknowledges that the remote is sending it something, but the screen stays black. I am completly lost as to what could be wrong with this tv, the company I purchased it from as well as Sharp is telling me that the tv is not broken and that I must be doing something wrong. If anyone has any idea, please let me know. By the way its model # LC-32GA4M.
There are several possibles but few probables.
Is the power indicator green or red? and is it flashing?
No-signal-off operates after 15 minutes
no-operation-off operates after long period
do you have the unit in mode2 power off for a PC?? probably not because you should be able to access the menu.
sorry cannot help more other than suggest you ask whoever said that the unit is OK to demonstrate its operation
